In commemoration of Media Arts Center San Diego Digital Gym Cinema’s 5th birthday, we are thrilled to announce a week-long film series featuring 7 iconic films celebrating their own anniversaries in 2018! Influential, captivating, and endlessly rewatchable, our selection of films highlight significant genre trends, star-making performances, and form-altering technological advances throughout film history.
Films include Sofia Coppola’s Tokyo set platonic romance “Lost in Translation”, Almodovar’s unforgettable comedy “Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios”, and the still-influential “The Red Shoes”, cinema’s greatest Technicolor visual feast, still as luminous as ever 70 years after its initial release. Can’t make the movies, but still want to support independent/foreign cinema here in San Diego, donate to our non-profit here.

Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios – 30th Anniversary
Pedro Almodóvar’s crowning screwball farce is an eccentrically comic battle of the sexes in which several scorned women begin to lash out against the men who have wronged them. Almodovar’s most successful comedy features performances from the inimitable Carmen Maura, Rossy de Palma, and Antonio Banderas. Showtimes: Wednesday, July 11: 11:00AM, 3:00, 7:00PM.
The Red Shoes – 70th Anniversary

In the film, a young ballerina finds herself torn between the passion of a ruthless impressario and the artistic fervor of a composer. Showtimes: Thursday, July 12: 11:00, 3:40, 8:15PM.
