A strange woman comes to Texas to meet her half-sister and stake a claim to the family music legacy–one way or another.
A young British woman named Sinaloa comes to Texas to find Merle, her half-sister by way of their dead country musician father. It doesn’t take long for Sinaloa to charm her way into Merle’s life. Her singing awakens something in Merle and erases some of the lingering doubts about their shared bloodline. But an all-too-familiar chaos comes with it, which soon starts to unravel Merle’s stable world—her job, her upcoming marriage, and an already tense relationship with her mother, Patricia.
Critic Quotes:
“An absorbing, low-key thriller, which builds atmosphere, psychological texture, an ingrained sense of place and a needling undercurrent of dread.” –
THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
“The film’s strong central performances, beguiling aesthetic and superb soundtrack, not to mention its thriller sensibilities, should ensure continued audience identification with its defiant independent spirit.” – SCREEN INTERNATIONAL
“(T)his is a smart, tense movie with two great performances at its center. …Reid and Tolman give two of the most unforgettable performances of SXSW 2017.” – ROGEREBERT.COM
“Not since BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN has a movie used country melodies so effectively to convey its characters’ internal turmoil.” – INDIEWIRE
“…a delightfully sinister tale that views an incoming stranger as a human question mark.”
