Martin Scorsese’s epic gangster film explores the life of hitman Frank Sheeran (Robert DeNiro), who befriended union boss Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) while working for the Italian mob during the 1950s-70s.
Synopsis: In the 1950s, truck driver Frank Sheeran (Robert DeNori) gets involved with Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci) and his Pennsylvania crime family. As Sheeran climbs the ranks to become a top hit man, he also goes to work for Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) — a powerful Teamster tied to organized crime. Martin Scorsese’s epic crime film is a melancholic take on the gangster archetypes he made famous in films like Goodfellas and Casino.
“A coldly enthralling, long-form knockout — a majestic Mob epic with ice in its veins.”
– Owen Glieberman, Variety
“The Irishman is Martin Scorsese’s best crime movie since Goodfellas, and a pure, unbridled illustration of what has made his filmmaking voice so distinctive for nearly 50 years.”
– Eric Kohn, Indiewire
