Lee Hayden (Sam Elliott) is an aging Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He wastes his days away until a surprise cancer diagnosis forces him to reconnect with his estranged daughter and to find one final role to cement his legacy.

Lee Hayden is a Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy, until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. He soon strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte, and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy, all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.

Critic Quotes:

Elliott does some of his finest work in one of the best movies in his career, a drama that feels like a biography.” – Minneapolis Star Tribune

“You will almost assuredly leave The Hero knowing that [Sam Elliott] is a bona fide national treasure.” – Rolling Stone

“The Hero” is a resonant depiction of a man fearlessly reckoning with his life, his image and most importantly, his heart. Sam Elliott could not be more compelling.” – The Playlist
