These screenings are presented at the Digital Gym as part of GERMAN CURRENTS KINO San Diego, and with the support of AMONG FRIENDS – UNTER FREUNDEN, a campaign of the Goethe-Institut USA to celebrate and strengthen transatlantic friendship.

Synopsis: At the age of 20, Joachim is unexpectedly accepted into the renowned drama school in Munich and moves into the villa with his grandparents, Inge and Hermann. Between the bizarre challenges of drama school and his grandparents’ eccentric, mostly alcohol-fueled rituals, Joachim tries to find his place in the world—without knowing what role he actually plays in it. Director and writer Simon Verhoeven tells a hilariously funny and deeply moving story about how difficult it is to face your big emotions.
